{"data":{"id":"us-il/225-ilcs-110-8.4","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"225 ILCS 110/8.4","heading":"Diagnosing autism spectrum disorders.","body":"(This Section may contain text from a Public Act with a delayed effective date)\n(Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2028)\nA speech-language pathologist may diagnose autism spectrum disorders if:\n(1) the child is under 3 years of age and has no known co-occurring medical conditions, such as seizures, gastrointestinal problems, or sleep disorders;\n(2) the speech-language pathologist has completed training in age-appropriate autism diagnostic evaluation methods provided by an approved continuing education sponsor;\n(3) the speech-language pathologist has, upon renewal of the speech-language pathologist's license, certified to the Department that at least 5 of the speech-language pathologist's required continuing education hours were in age-appropriate autism diagnostic evaluation methods provided by an approved continuing education sponsor; and\n(4) the diagnosis occurs as part of the Illinois Early Intervention Program.\nThe speech-language pathologist must refer the child to the appropriate medical personnel for further evaluation or management for services outside the scope of practice of a speech-language pathologist.","path":["CHAPTER 225 PROFESSIONS, OCCUPATIONS, AND BUSINESS OPERATIONS","Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=1325\u0026ChapterID=24\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:31Z","sha256":"294f3da0f7090c6b1050e72a1fe134d08bf7057edbaa600cf3bde340ccab6c42","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/225-ilcs-110-8.3","next":"us-il/225-ilcs-110-8.5"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
