{"data":{"id":"us-il/405-ilcs-5-3-603","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"405 ILCS 5/3-603","heading":"","body":"(a) If no physician, qualified examiner, psychiatrist, advanced practice psychiatric nurse, or clinical psychologist is immediately available or it is not possible after a diligent effort to obtain the certificate provided for in Section 3-602, the respondent may be detained for examination in a mental health facility upon presentation of the petition alone pending the obtaining of such a certificate.\n(b) In such instance the petition shall conform to the requirements of Section 3-601 and further specify that:\n1. the petitioner believes, as a result of his personal observation, that the respondent is subject to involuntary admission on an inpatient basis;\n2. a diligent effort was made to obtain a certificate;\n3. no physician, qualified examiner, psychiatrist, or clinical psychologist could be found who has examined or could examine the respondent; and\n4. a diligent effort has been made to convince the respondent to appear voluntarily for examination by a physician, qualified examiner, psychiatrist, or clinical psychologist, unless the petitioner reasonably believes that effort would impose a risk of harm to the respondent or others.","path":["CHAPTER 405 MENTAL HEALTH, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES","Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Code."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=1496\u0026ChapterID=34\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:34Z","sha256":"c6378a2e457f8b6943d3cb8eb1d93972cbe48b44919f41db01ddef023aa8312c","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/405-ilcs-5-3-602","next":"us-il/405-ilcs-5-3-604"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
