{"data":{"id":"us-il/605-ilcs-5-2-220","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"605 ILCS 5/2-220","heading":"","body":"The Department, after consultation with the Department of Natural Resources, shall, where appropriate, maintain in forested lands, rather than grasslands, Department-controlled property adjacent to and between divided lanes of State highways. In determining where such forestation is appropriate, the Department shall consider whether such forestation would:\n(a) enhance the scenic quality of the highway;\n(b) provide additional habitat for wildlife;\n(c) result in a financial savings from reduced grassland maintenance;\n(d) enhance air quality;\n(e) serve as a deterrent to soil erosion;\n(f) not hinder drivers' visibility or otherwise create a traffic hazard; and\n(g) be fiscally prudent considering the availability of low cost or no cost nursery stock as provided by the Department of Natural Resources.","path":["CHAPTER 605 ROADS AND BRIDGES","Illinois Highway Code."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=1745\u0026ChapterID=45\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:39Z","sha256":"3f42a3804c81e7adc204933b4a774f3f9d6f119543929b47e613770435b03d21","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/605-ilcs-5-2-219","next":"us-il/605-ilcs-5-3-101"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
