{"data":{"id":"us-il/625-ilcs-5-12-218","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"625 ILCS 5/12-218","heading":"Auxiliary accent lighting on motorcycles.","body":"(a) A motorcycle registered in this State may be equipped with, and a person operating the motorcycle may use, standard bulb running lights or light-emitting diode (L.E.D.) pods and strips as auxiliary lighting with the intent of protecting the driver.\n(b) Auxiliary lighting authorized under subsection (a) of this Section:\n(1) shall not project a beam of light of an intensity greater than 25 candlepower or its equivalent from a single lamp or single light-emitting diode (L.E.D.);\n(2) shall not be directed horizontally;\n(3) shall be so directed that no part of the beam will strike the level of the surface on which the motorcycle stands at a distance of more than 10 feet from the motorcycle;\n(4) shall be directed towards the ground;\n(5) shall not emit blue light, but may emit red light only while the stop lamp on the motorcycle is illuminated and motorcycle is in the course of braking;\n(6) shall not be:\n(A) blinking;\n(B) flashing;\n(C) oscillating; or\n(D) rotating; and\n(7) shall not be attached to the wheels of the motorcycle.","path":["CHAPTER 625 VEHICLES","Illinois Vehicle Code."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=1815\u0026ChapterID=49\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:40Z","sha256":"bf0b167db71dc4e13d18e78627afc643d5ef8d90a75d64fc58300ffac2fe75c4","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/625-ilcs-5-12-217","next":"us-il/625-ilcs-5-12-218.5"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
