{"data":{"id":"us-il/65-ilcs-5-11-63-2","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"65 ILCS 5/11-63-2","heading":"","body":"The corporate authorities of any municipality specified in Section 11-63-1 may not exercise the authorities granted by Section 11-63-1 until the question of establishing, equipping, maintaining and operating a community building or buildings and the levying of an annual tax therefor in the amount specified by Section 11-63-1 is submitted to the electors of such municipality and approved by a majority of those voting on the question.\nWhenever a petition signed by the electors of any specified municipality equal in number to 5% or more of the total number of votes cast at the last preceding regular municipal election, is filed with the municipal clerk of any such municipality requesting the establishment, equipment, operation and maintenance of a community building or buildings and the levy of an annual tax therefor, the question shall be certified by the clerk and submitted to the municipal electors.\nThe question shall be in substantially the following form:\n--------------------------------------------------------------\nShall the corporate authorities\nof (here insert name of YES\nmunicipality).... establish, equip,\nmaintain and operate a community ----------------------\nbuilding or buildings and levy\nannually a tax of ....% for these NO\npurposes?\n--------------------------------------------------------------\nIf a majority of the votes cast on the question are in favor of the proposition, the corporate authorities shall have the authority granted to them by Section 11-63-1.","path":["CHAPTER 65 MUNICIPALITIES","Illinois Municipal Code."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=802\u0026ChapterID=14\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:23Z","sha256":"cfb32f05bbb2e72e88cdb58ae062b66be0a315ee9527b2ba221e5d84128bcf8c","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/65-ilcs-5-11-63-1","next":"us-il/65-ilcs-5-11-63-3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
