{"data":{"id":"us-il/750-ilcs-22-204","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"750 ILCS 22/204","heading":"Simultaneous proceedings.","body":"(a) A tribunal of this State may exercise jurisdiction to establish a support order if the petition or comparable pleading is filed after a pleading is filed in another state or a foreign country only if:\n(1) the petition or comparable pleading in this State is filed before the expiration of the time allowed in the other state or the foreign country for filing a responsive pleading challenging the exercise of jurisdiction by the other state or the foreign country;\n(2) the contesting party timely challenges the exercise of jurisdiction in the other state or the foreign country; and\n(3) if relevant, this State is the home state of the child.\n(b) A tribunal of this State may not exercise jurisdiction to establish a support order if the petition or comparable pleading is filed before a petition or comparable pleading is filed in another state or a foreign country if:\n(1) the petition or comparable pleading in the other state or foreign country is filed before the expiration of the time allowed in this State for filing a responsive pleading challenging the exercise of jurisdiction by this State;\n(2) the contesting party timely challenges the exercise of jurisdiction in this State; and\n(3) if relevant, the other state or foreign country is the home state of the child.","path":["CHAPTER 750 FAMILIES","Uniform Interstate Family Support Act."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=2091\u0026ChapterID=59\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:44Z","sha256":"cf617840642c630eed7b14585e88b41cc56602c9d63cd87827810a0e5112b9a9","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/750-ilcs-22-203","next":"us-il/750-ilcs-22-205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
