{"data":{"id":"us-il/765-ilcs-721-10","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"765 ILCS 721/10","heading":"Remedies for violation of this Act.","body":"If the landlord acts in violation of this Act, the tenant has a defense in any retaliatory action against the tenant, and a landlord shall be subject to a civil action for damages and other appropriate relief, including, but not limited to, the following remedies:\n(1) terminate the rental agreement and, if the rental agreement is terminated, the landlord shall return all security and interest recoverable under the Security Deposit Return Act and all prepaid rent;\n(2) recover possession of the premises if the landlord has dispossessed, threatened to dispossess, or is in the process of dispossessing; and\n(3) recovery of an amount equal to and not more than 2 months' rent or 2 times the damages sustained by the tenant, whichever is greater, and reasonable attorney's fees.","path":["CHAPTER 765 PROPERTY","Landlord Retaliation Act."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=4532\u0026ChapterID=62\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:45Z","sha256":"1056c452c081e6ab2409b4df1c68f6bdaefeb6128660747576dbd1f0f0ac83f2","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/765-ilcs-721-5","next":"us-il/765-ilcs-721-15"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
