(a) As used in this chapter, \"operational canine\" means a dog that:\n(1) is owned, used, or requested for use by a law enforcement agency or a federal, state, or local fire or other emergency response agency; and\n(2) is used for the principal purposes of aiding in:\n(A) the detection of criminal activity;\n(B) the enforcement of laws;\n(C) the apprehension of offenders;\n(D) providing search and rescue services; or\n(E) ensuring the public safety and welfare.\n(b) The term includes the following:\n(1) An arson investigation dog.\n(2) A bomb detection dog.\n(3) A narcotic detection dog.\n(4) A patrol dog.\n(5) A military working dog.\n(6) A search and rescue dog.","path":["TITLE 16.
