(a) Upon the filing of a petition for a recount, the circuit court clerk shall notify the judge. The judge shall:\n(1) issue a notice of the filing and pendency of the petition to:\n(A) each candidate named in the petition;\n(B) the county election board; and\n(C) the election division if the petition relates to a recount for the office of judge or prosecuting attorney; and\n(2) deliver the notice to the sheriff of each county in which a candidate resides.\n(b) Each sheriff shall immediately serve the notice upon candidates in person or by leaving a copy at the last and usual place of residence.
