{"data":{"id":"us-ks/k.s.a.-21-5419","jurisdiction":"us-ks","citation":"K.S.A. 21-5419","heading":"Application of certain crimes to an unborn child.","body":"(a) As used in this section:\n(1) \"Abortion\" means an abortion as defined by K.S.A. 65-6701, and amendments thereto; and\n(2) \"unborn child\" means a living individual organism of the species homo sapiens, in utero, at any stage of gestation from fertilization to birth.\n(b) This section shall not apply to:\n(1) Any act committed by the mother of the unborn child;\n(2) any medical procedure, including abortion, performed by a physician or other licensed medical professional at the request of the pregnant woman or her legal guardian; or\n(3) the lawful dispensation or administration of lawfully prescribed medication.\n(c) As used in K.S.A. 21-5401, 21-5402, 21-5403, 21-5404, 21-5405, 21-5406 and subsections (a) and (b) of 21-5413, and amendments thereto, \"person\" and \"human being\" also mean an unborn child.\n(d) This section shall be known as Alexa's law.","path":["Chapter 21.—CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS","Article 54.—CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS"],"source_url":"https://www.ksrevisor.gov/statutes/chapters/ch21/021_054_0019.html","current_through":"2025 legislative session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T15:11:10Z","sha256":"56dbe256a9ec02d2e0b42679202f58498858f3525d338ee08e7fd8b99dca429d","source_id":"us-ks","stale":false,"prev":"us-ks/k.s.a.-21-5418","next":"us-ks/k.s.a.-21-5420"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
