{"data":{"id":"us-ks/k.s.a.-23-36-204","jurisdiction":"us-ks","citation":"K.S.A. 23-36,204","heading":"Simultaneous proceedings.","body":"(a) A tribunal of this state may exercise jurisdiction to establish a support order if the petition or comparable pleading is filed after a pleading is filed in another state or foreign country only if:\n(1) The petition or comparable pleading in this state is filed before the expiration of the time allowed in the other state or the foreign country for filing a responsive pleading challenging the exercise of jurisdiction by the other state or the foreign country;\n(2) the contesting party timely challenges the exercise of jurisdiction in the other state or the foreign country; and\n(3) if relevant, this state is the home state of the child.\n(b) A tribunal of this state may not exercise jurisdiction to establish a support order if the petition or comparable pleading is filed before a petition or comparable pleading is filed in another state or a foreign country if:\n(1) The petition or comparable pleading in the other state or foreign country is filed before the expiration of the time allowed in this state for filing a responsive pleading challenging the exercise of jurisdiction by this state;\n(2) the contesting party timely challenges the exercise of jurisdiction in this state; and\n(3) if relevant, the other state or foreign country is the home state of the child.","path":["Chapter 23.—KANSAS FAMILY LAW CODE-REVISED","Article 36.—FAMILY SUPPORT JURISDICTION"],"source_url":"https://www.ksrevisor.gov/statutes/chapters/ch23/023_036_0204.html","current_through":"2025 legislative session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T15:11:21Z","sha256":"acb0529635adc629930eadf6efc4d7364a674c188c1d5eafbf92ef32a92b8486","source_id":"us-ks","stale":false,"prev":"us-ks/k.s.a.-23-36-203","next":"us-ks/k.s.a.-23-36-205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
