{"data":{"id":"us-ks/k.s.a.-73-1244","jurisdiction":"us-ks","citation":"K.S.A. 73-1244","heading":"Veteran benefit determination; definitions; documentation to determine eligibility.","body":"(a) As used in this section:\n(1) \"Service-connected disability\" means, regarding disability or death, that such disability was incurred or aggravated, or that such death resulted from a disability incurred or aggravated, in the line of duty in the active military, naval, air or space service; and\n(2) \"veteran\" means a person who served in the active military, naval, air or space service, including those groups and individuals listed under 38 C.F.R. § 3.7, and was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.\n(b) No state agency or municipality, as defined in K.S.A. 12-105a, and amendments thereto, shall request or demand any other document or improvise an authentication procedure to determine eligibility for any benefit derived from a service-connected disability suffered by a Kansas veteran, except the following:\n(1) A United States passport as defined in 22 C.F.R. 53.1;\n(2) an unexpired real I.D. state driver's license as defined in 6 C.F.R. 37;\n(3) a veterans health identity card issued by the United States department of veterans affairs;\n(4) a veterans identification card issued under the authority of 38 U.S.C. § 5706;\n(5) a common access card issued by the United States department of defense; or\n(6) any department of defense identity cards listed in 32 C.F.R. 161(b).","path":["Chapter 73.—SOLDIERS, SAILORS AND PATRIOTIC EMBLEMS","Article 12.—KANSAS COMMISSION ON VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICE"],"source_url":"https://www.ksrevisor.gov/statutes/chapters/ch73/073_012_0044.html","current_through":"2025 legislative session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T15:14:06Z","sha256":"9bca434a02e6c2e77975bbe285c5a0b57b5c0a64a96a449621bf4bb2d046685e","source_id":"us-ks","stale":false,"prev":"us-ks/k.s.a.-73-1243","next":"us-ks/k.s.a.-73-1245"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
