{"data":{"id":"us-ks/k.s.a.-80-1541","jurisdiction":"us-ks","citation":"K.S.A. 80-1541","heading":"Township fire districts; powers and authority; territory, limitations.","body":"(a) Upon the creation of a fire district by the township board or boards, the governing body of the fire district as hereinafter provided may:\n(1) Levy taxes and assessments;\n(2) enter into contracts;\n(3) acquire, operate and maintain fire-fighting equipment;\n(4) acquire and construct buildings to house firefighting equipment;\n(5) exercise eminent domain;\n(6) exercise powers granted to fire districts under K.S.A. 80-1514, and amendments thereto;\n(7) issue general obligation bonds and no-fund warrants as provided under K.S.A. 80-1514b, and amendments thereto; and\n(8) do all things necessary to effectuate the purposes of this act.\n(b) Any territory included in any fire district created under the provisions of this act which thereafter is annexed by a city shall be excluded from the fire district and shall be furnished fire protection by such city. Subject to the provisions of K.S.A. 19-270, new lands may be included in the district whenever a petition requesting such inclusion is filed with the governing body of the fire district under the same procedure and conditions as is required for the creation of a fire district, but no area may be included which is already in an existing fire district or city without the consent of that district or city.","path":["Chapter 80.—TOWNSHIPS AND TOWNSHIP OFFICERS","Article 15.—FIRE PROTECTION"],"source_url":"https://www.ksrevisor.gov/statutes/chapters/ch80/080_015_0041.html","current_through":"2025 legislative session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T15:15:23Z","sha256":"224477aa50a68763d3396ab9402ab0a52272de2f9a03da68814c90916f4afe9e","source_id":"us-ks","stale":false,"prev":"us-ks/k.s.a.-80-1540a","next":"us-ks/k.s.a.-80-1542"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
