{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-11.220","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 11.220","heading":"Purpose, intent of gubernatorial transition law.","body":"The General Assembly declares it to be the purpose of KRS 11.210 to 11.260 to promote\nthe orderly transfer of the executive power in connection with the expiration of the term\nof office of a governor and the inauguration of a new governor. The interest of the\nCommonwealth requires that such transitions be accomplished so as to assure continuity\nin the conduct of the affairs of the state government. Any disruption occasioned by the\ntransfer of the executive power could produce results detrimental to the safe ty and well-\nbeing of the Commonwealth and its people. Accordingly, it is the intent of the General\nAssembly that appropriate actions be authorized and taken to avoid or minimize any\ndisruption. In addition to the specific provisions contained in KRS 11.210  to 11.260\ndirected toward that purpose, it is the intent of the General Assembly that all officers of\nthe state government so conduct the affairs of the state government for which they\nexercise responsibility and authority as to be mindful of problems occ asioned by\ntransitions in the office of Governor, to take appropriate lawful steps to avoid or\nminimize disruptions that might be occasioned by the transfer of the executive power and\notherwise to promote orderly transitions in the office of Governor.","path":["KRS Chapter 11"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=553","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:27Z","sha256":"cb1f0ba6abfb02cbbc02f37e87d072330ca7cb18fd51e297ef94995ef199564a","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-11.210","next":"us-ky/krs-11.230"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
