{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-116.0455","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 116.0455","heading":"Voter registration through motor vehicle driver's license application.","body":"(1) (a) Each motor vehicle driver's license application, including any renewal\napplication, submitted to the appropriate motor vehicle authority shall serve as\nan application for voter registration unless the applicant fails to sign the voter\nregistration application.\n(b) An application for voter registration submitted under paragraph (a) of this\nsubsection shall be considered as updating any previous voter registration by\nthe applicant.\n(2) No information relating to the failure of an applicant for a motor ve hicle driver's\nlicense to sign a voter registration application may be used for any purpose other\nthan voter registration.\n(3) (a) The Transportation Cabinet shall include a voter registration application form\nas part of an application for a motor vehicle driver's license.\n(b) The voter registration application portion of an application for a motor vehicle\ndriver's license shall comply with the requirements of Section 5 of Public Law\n103-31, the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.\n(4) Any change of add ress form submitted for purposes of a motor vehicle driver's\nlicense shall serve as notification of change of address for voter registration for the\nregistrant involved unless the registrant states on the form that the change of address\nis not for voter registration purposes.\n(5) (a) A completed voter registration portion of an application for a motor vehicle\ndriver's license accepted by the Transportation Cabinet shall be transmitted to\nthe county clerk of the county of the applicant's voting residence not later than\nten (10) days after the date of acceptance.\n(b) If a voter registration application is accepted within five (5) days before the\nlast day for registration to vote in an election, the application shall be\ntransmitted to the county clerk of the co unty of the applicant's voting\nresidence not later than five (5) days after the date of acceptance.\n(6) The Transportation Cabinet shall provide to the county clerk a declination statement\nsigned by an applicant if the applicant has declined to register to vote.","path":["KRS Chapter 116"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=49881","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:11Z","sha256":"112197d901f15dfefba55f314d3990d1011a7b95d2d2900df7367bc1b070d940","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-116.0452","next":"us-ky/krs-116.046"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
