{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-117.0551","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 117.0551","heading":"Boundaries of precincts.","body":"(1) A county board of elections shall establish election precincts so that each boundary\nof each precinct follows:\n(a) A boundary described in KRS 117.055(1);\n(b) The boundary of an incorporated city;\n(c) A boundary of an urban -county legislative district esta blished under KRS\nChapter 67A;\n(d) A boundary of a school district or school district division established under\nKRS Chapter 160; or\n(e) A boundary of a census tract or census block established by the United States\nBureau of the Census for the most recent decennial census of population and\nappearing on census block boundary maps.\n(2) If a county board of elections cannot establish a precinct that complies with KRS\n117.055 by using the boundaries permitted under subsection (1) of this section, the\ncounty board of elections may either:\n(a) Establish the precinct boundary by using a boundary following a visible\nfeature, including but not limited to a highway, railroad, or stream centerline,\nand an extension of that visible feature to, but not across, another vi sible\nfeature, nor across an extension of another feature that is used as a precinct\nboundary; or\n(b) Request an exemption under KRS 117.0553 and 117.0554.\n(3) For purposes of this section, a \"visible feature\" is a physical feature shown on\nofficial maps o r in geographic information system (GIS) layers that are solely or\nboth prepared and maintained by:\n(a) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet;\n(b) The United States Geological Survey;\n(c) The United States Bureau of the Census;\n(d) The Kentucky Department of Revenue; or\n(e) The Commonwealth Office of Technology.","path":["KRS Chapter 117"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55589","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:12Z","sha256":"c6062e88cee8e5d6a0cb48b4b999824e8dd141efe145cadcdada36a90e24d334","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-117.055","next":"us-ky/krs-117.0552"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
