{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-117a.060","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 117A.060","heading":"Application by covered voter -- Declaration -- Informing election official","body":"that voter is covered.\n(1) A covered voter who is registered to vote in the Commonwealth of Kentucky may\napply for a military -overseas ballot using either the regular  absentee ballot\napplication in use in the voter's jurisdiction under KRS 117.085, or the federal\npostcard application, or the application's electronic equivalent.\n(2) A covered voter who is not registered to vote in the Commonwealth of Kentucky\nmay use a federal postcard application, or the application's electronic equivalent, to\napply simultaneously to register to vote under KRS 117A.050, and for a military -\noverseas ballot.\n(3) The State Board of Elections shall ensure that the electronic transmission sys tem\ndescribed in KRS 117A.030(4) is capable of accepting the submission of both a\nfederal postcard application and any other approved electronic military -overseas\nballot application sent to the appropriate election official. The covered voter may\nuse the electronic transmission system or any other approved method to apply for a\nmilitary-overseas ballot.\n(4) A covered voter may use the declaration accompanying a federal write -in absentee\nballot as an application for a military -overseas ballot simultaneously with the\nsubmission of the federal write -in absentee ballot, if the declaration is received by\nthe appropriate election official by the close of business hours seven (7) days before\nthe election.\n(5) To receive the benefits of this chapter, a covered voter  shall inform the appropriate\nelection official that the voter is a covered voter. Methods of informing the\nappropriate election official that a voter is a covered voter include:\n(a) The use of a federal postcard application or federal write -in absentee ba llot;\nand\n(b) The use of the electronic transmission system established under KRS\n117A.030(4).\n(6) This chapter does not preclude a covered voter from voting using the regular\nabsentee ballot provisions under KRS 117.077, 117.085, and 117.086.","path":["KRS Chapter 117A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=48905","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:14Z","sha256":"44281c27f09ae1d1bc5d3f37bd298e9d9ea50d824e11ed159e5dcee51c81efa2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-117a.050","next":"us-ky/krs-117a.070"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
