{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-118.115","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 118.115","heading":"Nominations for unexpired terms -- Grouping of candidates on ballot","body":"-- Ineligibility of Senior Status Special Judge.\n(1) Except as provided in KRS  83A.045(2)(b) governing vacancies in candidacy,\ncandidates for unexpired terms to be filled at a regular election shall be\nnominated at the primary next preceding the regular election, if the vacancy\noccurred not less than one hundred sixty (160) days before the primary.\n(2) If the vacancy occurred less than one hundred sixty (160) days before the\nprimary, the nomination shall be made  in a manner  determined by the\ngoverning authority of the political party concerned as defined in KRS  118.015.\nCertificates of nomination shall be filed as required with the Secretary of State\nor county clerk not later than the first Tuesday after the first Monday  in June\npreceding the day fixed by law for the election.\n(3) If the vacancy occurs after the first Tuesday after the first Monday  in June\npreceding the day fixed by law for the election, but not less than three (3)\nmonths before the regular election, the nomination shall be made in a manner\ndetermined by the governing authority of the political party concerned as\ndefined in KRS  118.015. Certificates of nomination shall be filed as required\nwith the Secretary of State or county clerk not later than the second Tuesday in\nAugust preceding the regular election sought.\n(4) Independent, political organization, or political group candidates filing to fill a\nvacancy for an unexpired term shall be governed by KRS 118.375.\n(5) In the preparation of ballots, candidates for full terms shall be grouped\ntogether, and candidates for unexpired terms shall be grouped together, under\nappropriate headings, so that the voter may easily distinguish the candidates\nfor full terms from the candidates for unexpired terms.\n(6) A judge who elected to retire as a Senior Status Special Judge in accordance\nwith KRS  21.580 shall not become  a candidate or a nominee for any elected\noffice during the five (5) year term prescribed in KRS 21.580(1)(a)1., regardless\nof the number of days served by the judge acting as a Senior Status Special\nJudge.","path":["KRS Chapter 118"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=52138","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:15Z","sha256":"f988eca360ed4a0595e049fcb2278e040393359dc154a7422807fa73d65315fe","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-118.110","next":"us-ky/krs-118.120"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
