{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-119.165","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 119.165","heading":"Penalties for falsely personating a voter or voting by nonresident or","body":"unqualified person or convicted felon.\n(1) Any person who falsely personates a registered voter, and receives and casts a\nballot by means of such personation, shall be guilty of a Class D felony. An attempt\nat such personation shall constitute a Class A misdemeanor.\n(2) Any person who, by means other than falsely personating a registered voter, votes\nat an election in this state when he or she is a resident of another state or country, or\nvotes more than once at an election, or votes by use of the naturalization papers of\nanother person, shall be guilty of a Class D felony. Any person who knowingly\nvotes or attempts to vote in a precinct other than the one in which he or she resides\nshall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor, unless by voting in a precinct in which he\nor she does not live he is enabled to vote in a race or on a matter in which he or she\ncould not vote in his or her proper precinct in which case he or she shall be guilty of\na Class D felony. Any person who lends or hires his, hers, or another's\nnaturalization papers to be used for the purpose of voting shall be subject to the\nsame penalty.\n(3) Any person who has been convicted of a felony offense and has not previously been\nrestored to their voting rights who then knowingly votes or attempts to vote shall be\nguilty of a Class D felony.\n(4) Any resident of this state who, by means other than falsely personating a registered\nvoter, votes before he or she has beco me a citizen, shall be guilty of a Class B\nmisdemeanor.\n(5) Any person who, by means other than falsely personating a registered voter, votes\nin a primary election knowing that he or she is not qualified as provided in KRS\n116.055, shall be guilty of a violation.\n(6) Any person who applies for or receives a ballot at any voting place other than the\none at which he or she is entitled to vote, under circumstances not constituting a\nviolation of any of the provisions of subsections (1) to (3) of this section, shall be\nguilty of a Class A misdemeanor.","path":["KRS Chapter 119"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57007","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:17Z","sha256":"82eea1b14f0354ce551e898dc3cf404dc24e5b5fa8f817ac0b0dc3b8f64553e5","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-119.160","next":"us-ky/krs-119.170"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
