{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-12.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 12.010","heading":"Definitions.","body":"In this chapter, and throughout the Kentucky Revised Statutes where applicable and\nappropriate unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Organizational unit\" means any unit of organization in the executive branch of the\nstate government that is not an administrative body, including but not limited to any\nagency, program cabinet, department, bureau, division, section or office;\n(2) \"Department\" means that basic unit of administrative organization of state\ngovernment, by whatever name called, designated by statute or by statutorily\nauthorized executive action as a \"department,\" such organization to be headed by a\ncommissioner;\n(3) \"Division\" means a major subdivision of a department established by statute or by\nstatutorily authorized administrative action, such to be headed by a director;\n(4) \"Branch\" means a small grouping of logical workforce personnel, such to be headed\nby a manager;\n(5) \"Section\" means a smaller grouping within a branch, such to be headed by a\nsupervisor;\n(6) \"Unit\" means the smallest grouping of coordinated employees, such to be headed by\na leader;\n(7) \"Office\" means a staff support or administrative function and shall be a major\nsubdivision of a program cabinet only, such to be headed by an executive director;\n(8) \"Administrative body\" m eans any multi -member body in the executive branch of\nthe state government, including but not limited to any board, council, commission,\ncommittee, authority or corporation, but does not include \"branch,\" \"section,\" \"unit\"\nor \"office\";\n(9) \"Program cabinet \" means a group of departments, or departments and\nadministrative bodies, designated by statute or statutorily authorized executive\naction as a \"program cabinet.\"","path":["KRS Chapter 12"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=618","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:28Z","sha256":"e3cd3eedc2a9d79d82be4b39064f609de2cf43e074fb51c11ef7ce6eb74f2d7c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-11a.990","next":"us-ky/krs-12.015"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
