{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-12.070","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 12.070","heading":"Appointments to boards and commissions -- Minority representation --","body":"Reimbursement for expenses when compensation not provided.\n(1) For the purpose of this section, \"minority\" means American Indian; Alaskan native;\nAfrican-American; Hispanic, including  persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban,\nand Central or South American origin; Pacific islander; or other ethnic group\nunderrepresented on state boards and commissions.\n(2) Except as otherwise expressly provided by law, the members of each administrative\nboard or commission shall be citizens of Kentucky appointed by the Governor from\nthe state at large on the basis of their interests in public affairs, their good judgment,\nand their knowledge and ability in the field of action of the department for which\nappointed, with a view to providing diversity of interests and points of view in the\nmembership and without regard to their political or religious opinions or\naffiliations.\n(3) Where appointments to administrative boards and commissions are made from lists\nsubmitted to him, the Governor may reject the list and require that other lists be\nsubmitted. Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary, in the event the current\nmembership of a board or commission reflects a proportion of the minority group\nless than the proportion of the minority group in the total population of the\nCommonwealth, then the Governor may appoint a member of the minority group\neven if the list of nominees for a vacancy does not include a member of the minority\ngroup.\n(4) Before entering upon the duties of their office, all members of administrative boards\nand commissions shall take the oath of office prescribed by Section 228 of the\nConstitution.\n(5) When a board, commission, or similar administrative body is established and no\nprovision is made for compensation of members, members shall serve without pay,\nbut may receive reimbursement for their actual and necessary expenses.","path":["KRS Chapter 12"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=633","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:28Z","sha256":"3551feaa2469dc2629e476ff4d63a50eb49b727c5e82b20b6a58c1f3eab29211","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-12.060","next":"us-ky/krs-12.080"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
