{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-12.270","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 12.270","heading":"Cabinet secretaries -- Authority, powers, and duties.","body":"(1) The secretary of each cabinet shall:\n(a) Be a member of the Governor's Cabinet and shall serve as the Governor's\nliaison in carrying out the responsibilities for overall direction and\ncoordination of the departments, boards, and commissions included in the\nrelated cabinet;\n(b) Recommend to the Go vernor desired reorganization affecting the related\ncabinet;\n(c) Advise the Governor on executive actions, legislative matters, and other steps\nthat may be desirable for better program service;\n(d) Evaluate and pass upon all budget requests originated by t he departments,\nboards, and commissions within the related cabinet;\n(e) Advise the Governor on the appointment of commissioners and heads of units\nincluded in the related cabinet, except for those whose election or selection is\notherwise provided for by law.\n(2) Except as provided by KRS 45.255, each secretary is authorized to accept and\nexpend funds from any source, whether public or private, in support of the duties\nand responsibilities of the related cabinet.\n(3) Each secretary shall have any and all nec essary power and authority, subject to\nappropriate provisions of the statutes, to create such positions and to employ the\nnecessary personnel in such positions to enable the secretary to perform the\nfunctions of his or her office.\n(4) Each secretary shall have exclusive control and direction over the administration of\nthe related cabinet programs as required by law.","path":["KRS Chapter 12"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53481","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:29Z","sha256":"70fadf9de2eca6f3b8e1ff47abddd1a5f6320f49891e9cbe24aff206275e099b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-12.267","next":"us-ky/krs-12.275"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
