{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-12.354","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 12.354","heading":"Issuance of state professional license or certification to military","body":"service member  or veteran -- Qualification -- Guidelines -- Limitations.\n(1) As used in this section, \"administrative body\" has the same meaning as in KRS\n12.010.\n(2) Each  administrative body that issues a license, permit, certificate, or other\ndocument  that is required to operate within any business, profession, or\noccupation in the Commonwealth  may issue a license, permit, certificate, or\nother document, or a temporary license, permit, certificate, or other document\nto a United States military service member  or veteran who is seeking a license,\npermit, certificate, or other document under this section and has:\n(a) Separated from the military with an honorable discharge, discharge under\nhonorable conditions, or a general discharge under honorable conditions\nwithin two (2) years preceding the date of applying for the license, permit,\ncertificate, or other document;\n(b) Received  training, education, or experience during active, National\nGuard, or federal reserve military service to the extent that such training,\neducation, or experience satisfies the requirements established by law\nand administrative regulations of the respective board for the issuance of\nany  license, permit, certificate, or other document, however styled or\ndenominated, required for the practice of any business, profession, or\noccupation in the Commonwealth; and\n(c) Submitted  his or her DD  214  form or other proof of satisfactory\ncompletion of military training to the administrative body as part of the\nlicense or certificate application.\n(3) Nothing in subsection (2) of this section shall require an administrative body to\nissue a license, permit, certificate, or other document if the administrative body\ndetermines that the military training or experience does  not meet  the\nrequirements established by the administrative body for the issuance of a\nlicense, permit, certificate, or other document to operate within a business,\nprofession, or occupation in the Commonwealth.\n(4) Administrative bodies that receive multiple requests under this section are\ndirected to publish clear guidelines to clarify requirements. These guidelines\nmay  be  published electronically, in print, or by  the promulgation of\nadministrative regulations.\n(5) Military training and experience submitted under subsection (2) of this section\nshall not be used as a substitute or in lieu of:\n(a) A  postsecondary school degree when a degree is a prerequisite for a\nlicense, permit, certificate, or other document; or\n(b) A  specified examination when  passage  of an  examination is a\nprerequisite for a license, permit, certificate, or other document.","path":["KRS Chapter 12"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=45890","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:29Z","sha256":"34ea288ecea47a562e0dfd7157b1dbff0c4cd62c5015ae9c221684a87ba275c7","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-12.350","next":"us-ky/krs-12.355"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
