{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-121.320","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 121.320","heading":"Assessment of state or federal employee prohibited.","body":"(1) No person shall obtain or attempt to obtain money by assessment or coercion from\nany state or federal employee with the purpose of using the money to promote or aid\nthe candidacy of any person, or any political party, or any question to be voted upon\nby the voters of this state or any section or portion of this state in any state, national,\ndistrict, county, city or precinct election, or primary election, or in securing\ndelegates or in any manner where nominations are to be made by convention. Every\nassessment and each act of coercion shall constitute a separate offense.\n(2) The term \"assessment,\" as used in this section, means the fixing of any amount, to\nbe given in money by any employee, and the soliciting of that amount or any\namount in money from a pers on so assessed. The term \"coercion,\" as used in this\nsection, means any threat of discharging any employee for failure to contribute any\namount of money for campaign or political purposes, or any attempt to force\ncontribution of any amount of money for pol itical or campaign purposes by any\ninfluence, or discharging, demoting or reducing the salary or wages of any\nemployee for failure to contribute portions of his salary or wages, or by putting such\nemployee in fear in any manner.\n(3) The term \"state or federal employee,\" as used in this section, means any person who\nholds any appointive office in any department of the state or federal government,\nand who receives wages or salary for his work from the funds of the state or the\nUnited States.","path":["KRS Chapter 121"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=27876","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:19Z","sha256":"f169e428985c63e11b3b8760b43f8f0dcc0728322142c59df9415603d84c4746","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-121.310","next":"us-ky/krs-121.330"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
