{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-138.475","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 138.475","heading":"Definitions for section -- Ownership fees for electric vehicles.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Electric motorcycle\" means the same as \"motorcycle\" or \"motor scooter\" as\ndefined in KRS 186.010, that is powered by a:\n1. Battery or equivalent energy storage device that can be charged with an\nelectric plug using an external electricity source; or\n2. Combination of an internal combustion engine and electric motor; and\n(b) \"Electric vehicle\" means any vehicle that has plug -in charg ing capability,\nregardless of whether the vehicle is powered by:\n1. An electric motor only; or\n2. A combination of an internal combustion engine and electric power.\n(2) At the time of initial registration, and each year upon annual vehicle registration\nrenewal, the county clerk shall collect, as required under KRS 186.050, from the\nregistrants of electric motorcycles and electric vehicles the electric vehicle\nownership fees established under subsections (3) and (4) of this section.\n(3) The electric vehicle ownership fees shall be:\n(a) One hundred twenty dollars ($120) for electric vehicles; and\n(b) Sixty dollars ($60) for electric motorcycles.\n(4) The Department of Revenue shall adjust the fees established in subsection (3) of\nthis section, on the same schedule and in the same manner as the adjustments to the\nelectric vehicle power taxes under KRS 138.477, except that:\n(a) Adjustment to the fees shall be rounded to the nearest dollar; and\n(b) Any adjustment of fees shall not result in a d ecrease below the base fees\nestablished in subsection (3) of this section.\n(5) The electric vehicle ownership fees collected under this section shall be transferred\nto the road fund.","path":["KRS Chapter 138"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55787","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:30Z","sha256":"604989615f232701b83652a53a960e4021b1b5e2f87e3f4f95c6d544db9ee95c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-138.472","next":"us-ky/krs-138.477"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
