{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-140.210","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 140.210","heading":"Payment of taxes -- Discount -- Interest -- Bond for payment.","body":"(1) (a) For deaths prior to July 1, 2026, all taxes imposed by this chapter, unless\notherwise provided in this chapter, shall be due at the death of the decedent\nand shall be payable t o the Department of Revenue within eighteen (18)\nmonths thereafter. If they are paid within nine (9) months, a discount of five\npercent (5%) shall be allowed, and if they are paid within eighteen (18)\nmonths, no interest shall be charged and collected thereon. If the taxes due are\nnot paid within eighteen (18) months, interest at the tax interest rate as defined\nin KRS 131.010 shall be paid from the expiration of the eighteen (18) months\nuntil payment is actually made to the department.\n(b) For deaths on or  after July 1, 2026, all taxes imposed by this chapter, unless\notherwise provided in this chapter, shall be due at the death of the decedent\nand shall be payable to the Department of Revenue within twenty -four (24)\nmonths thereafter. If they are paid withi n fourteen (14) months, a discount of\nfive percent (5%) shall be allowed, and if they are paid within twenty -four\n(24) months, no interest shall be charged and collected thereon. If the taxes\ndue are not paid within twenty -four (24) months, interest at the  tax interest\nrate as defined in KRS 131.010 shall be paid from the expiration of the\ntwenty-four (24) months until payment is actually made to the department.\n(2) In all cases where the personal representatives or trustees do not pay the taxes by\nthe applicable eighteen (18) month or twenty -four (24) month deadline established\nin subsection (1) of this section, they shall be required to give bond, in the form and\nto the effect prescribed by the department, for the payment of the taxes and interest.","path":["KRS Chapter 140"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56934","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:33Z","sha256":"a882259f18fd94ec7acd8754b254de54cc07783e215ac5a657522d7c5017db89","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-140.200","next":"us-ky/krs-140.220"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
