{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-146.410","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 146.410","heading":"Purpose of system of nature preserves.","body":"(1) All areas within the borders of the Commonwealth, except those which are\nexpressly dedicated by law for preservation and protection in their natural condition,\nare subject to alteration by human activity. As part of the continuing growth of the\npopulation and the economic development of the Commonwealth, it is necessary\nand desirable that the overall impact on the natural ecology be considered when\nmajor alterations are proposed affecting same, and that certain areas of unusual\nnatural significance be set a side and preserved for the benefit of present and future\ngenerations. Such unique areas are valuable as laboratories for scientific research, as\nreservoirs of natural materials not all of the uses of which are now known, as\nhabitats for plant and animal sp ecies and biotic communities, as living museums of\nthe native landscape where people may observe nature's web of life and our natural\nheritage, as places of historic and natural interest and scenic beauty, and as\nreminders of the vital human dependence upo n fresh air, clean water, and unspoiled\nnatural areas.\n(2) It is therefore the public policy of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to secure for the\npeople of present and future generations the benefits of an enduring resource of\nnatural areas by establishing a system of nature preserves, protecting these areas and\ngathering and disseminating information regarding them, establishing and\nmaintaining a registry of natural areas, and otherwise encouraging and assisting in\nthe preservation of natural areas and features.","path":["KRS Chapter 146"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=1511","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:37Z","sha256":"211271a1b8dde728338adda8bebbbb8f809f6605e4c18e779ca66a779b476c23","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-146.360","next":"us-ky/krs-146.415"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
