{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-146.440","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 146.440","heading":"Uses and purposes of nature preserves and natural areas.","body":"In order to secure for the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky of present and future\ngenerations the benefits of an environment having one or more of the characteristics of a\nnatural area, the office is hereby empowered to acquire in the name of the\nCommonwealth of Kentucky and to hold in trust for the benefit of the general public an\nadequate system of nature preserves and natural areas in the manner herein set forth, and\nfor the following uses and purposes:\n(1) For scientific research in such fields a s, but not limited to, ecology, taxonomy,\ngenetics, forestry, pharmacology, agriculture, soil science, geology, paleontology,\nornithology, herpetology, mammalogy, biology, entomology, agronomy,\nconservation, and all other natural sciences;\n(2) For the tea ching of biology, natural history, ecology, geology, conservation and\nother related subjects;\n(3) As habitats for plant and animal species and other natural objects;\n(4) As reservoirs of natural materials;\n(5) As places of natural interest and beauty;\n(6) As living illustrations of our natural heritage wherein one may observe and\nexperience natural biotic and ecological systems of the earth and their processes;\n(7) To promote understanding and appreciation of the aesthetic, cultural, scientific and\nspiritual values of our unpolluted and unspoiled environment;\n(8) For the preservation and protection of nature preserves against modification or\nencroachment resulting from occupation, development or other use which would\ndestroy their natural or aesthetic conditions;\n(9) As places where people may observe nature's web of life and our natural heritage,\nand as reminders of the vital human dependence upon unspoiled natural areas.","path":["KRS Chapter 146"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=47542","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:37Z","sha256":"6882fab4f47501f433bd283d310ca7fa4a06ac0deb8e47b798357727b554330b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-146.435","next":"us-ky/krs-146.445"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
