{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-147.660","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 147.660","heading":"Corporate character of commission -- Power to levy tax and accept funds.","body":"(1) The area planning commission created hereunder, when accepted by the cities and\ncounties affected as provided for herein, shall then be a political subdivision and\nshall be in perpetual existence, with power to sue and be sued, contract and be\ncontracted with, incur liabilities and obligations, levy an annual tax, which shall not\nexceed more than five cents ($0.05) upon each one hundred dollars ($100) of the\nassessed valuation of property within the counties affected, to be used for the\npurpose of defra ying all expenses necessary and incidental to carry out the\ncontinuing activities of the area planning commission. This tax shall be certified to\nthe auditors and county clerks of the various counties and by them to the respective\ntreasurers of the counties, signator to the contract provided for in KRS 147.620. The\ntax shall be based upon the last preceding assessment for state and county purposes.\nIts collection shall be imposed upon all property within the counties participating\nand shall conform to the c ollection of taxes for counties and the same provisions\nconcerning the nonpayment of taxes shall apply. The tax shall be added by the\ncounty clerk to the next state and county tax bill following the levy of the tax by the\narea planning commission, and shall be collected concurrently with state and county\ntaxes. The sheriff shall be allowed a fee not to exceed four percent (4%) for\ncollection.\n(2) In the performance of its duties, the area planning commission may cooperate with,\ncontract with, or accept fund s from federal, state, or local public or semipublic\nagencies, or private individuals or corporations within or without the\nCommonwealth, may expend such funds and may carry out such cooperative\nundertakings and contracts.","path":["KRS Chapter 147"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=1624","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:39Z","sha256":"f6f05c1b263cb137e593f9bf4b246814199c65a8a9ceaf0616ebd697b632486d","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-147.650","next":"us-ky/krs-147.670"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
