{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-147.670","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 147.670","heading":"Additional powers and duties of commission.","body":"The area planning commission shall have the power and duty to:\n(1) Prepare an area -wide comprehensive plan of the entire area within its jurisdiction,\nwhich includes all territory incorporated and unincorporated within the counties\nsignator thereto. The ar ea-wide comprehensive plan shall include at least all\ncomprehensive plan elements and research requirements prescribed in KRS Chapter\n100, so that the planning commissions of local planning units as established under\nKRS Chapter 100 and their respective le gislative bodies, may adopt all or parts of\nsaid area -wide comprehensive plan, as it applies to their respective areas of\njurisdiction, as a means of fulfilling the applicable requirements of KRS Chapter\n100. This area -wide comprehensive plan shall be revi ewed and amended, if\nnecessary, at least once every five (5) years;\n(2) Appoint an executive director for the commission and fix his compensation. The\ndirector shall be qualified by training and experience in the field of planning and\nzoning;\n(3) Upon writ ten request of a city or county within the territory of the area planning\ncommission, the area planning commission's staff may prepare and submit for\nconsideration to the appropriate local planning unit, zoning ordinances based on the\ncomprehensive plans o f such local planning unit. The area planning commission\nstaff assigned to perform such work shall consult with the appropriate local\nplanning unit as established under KRS Chapter 100, the city or county legislative\nbodies, and all property owners who are  directly affected by any change in the\nzoning ordinance applicable to such local planning unit;\n(4) Prescribe the qualifications of, appoint, remove, and fix the compensation of\nemployees of the commission;\n(5) Prepare, publish, and distribute reports and other material relating to the business of\nthe commission;\n(6) Prepare and submit an annual budget to the area planning council for the operation\nof the commission;\n(7) Exercise general supervision of and make regulations for the administration of the\naffairs of the commission;\n(8) Establish policies, procedures, and priorities for assigning staff and providing\nservices to planning units established under the provision of KRS Chapter 100, their\nrespective cities and counties, and other public and private a gencies and\norganizations, and may, irrespective of KRS 147.675, enter into agreements with\ncities, counties, and other public agencies and organizations in accordance with the\nprovisions of KRS 65.210 to 65.300 for the administration of KRS 65.8801 to\n65.8839 and KRS Chapters 99, 99A, 100, and 198B; and\n(9) Keep an accurate and complete record of all commission proceedings, financial\nstatements, and annually report to the various cities and counties signators to the\nagreement provided in KRS 147.620.","path":["KRS Chapter 147"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=1625","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:39Z","sha256":"90c9fd759d5320e56c7ddc124ce898d90cab08cb3362b1d4394bed3f0c739553","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-147.660","next":"us-ky/krs-147.673"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
