{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-148.056","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 148.056","heading":"Commissioner of parks may commission park rangers -- Powers as peace","body":"officers.\n(1) The commissioner of parks, in his discretion, may employ and commission park\nrangers as the commissioner deems necessary to secure the parks and property of\nthe Department of Parks and to maintain law and order and such employees, when\nso commissioned, shall have all of the powers of peace officers and shall have on\nall parks property and on public highways transversing such property in all parts of\nthe state th e same powers with respect to criminal matters and enforcement of the\nlaws relating thereto as sheriffs, constables granted peace officer powers, and police\nofficers in their respective jurisdictions, and shall possess all the immunities and\nmatters of defense now available or hereafter made available to sheriffs and police\nofficers in any suit brought against them in consequence of acts done in the course\nof their employment.\n(2) The designation of any such employee as a peace officer shall be governed by the\nprovisions of KRS 61.300 except that he shall not be required to have resided in the\ncounty wherein he is to serve for a period of at least two (2) years, and he shall be\nrequired to file his photograph and affidavit only with the Franklin county clerk.\n(3) Any employee so commissioned shall be required to execute bond, subject to the\nprovisions of KRS 62.170, for the faithful and lawful performance of his duties.","path":["KRS Chapter 148"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53277","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:40Z","sha256":"f6d64c7c5890d9f9d08ee6b5b5a163a9e94a6c377efddca5ae8fdc0e322e325b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-148.055","next":"us-ky/krs-148.060"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
