{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-148.580","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 148.580","heading":"Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial Committee -- Purpose -- Members --","body":"Duties -- Responsibilities of cabinet.\n(1) There is established an Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial Committee for the purpose\nof creating an Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial in the city of Frankfort, Kentucky, or\nanother location within the Commonwealth deemed more appropriate by the\ncommittee. Members of the committee shall include:\n(a) The Governor or his or her designee;\n(b) The secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet or his or  her\ndesignee;\n(c) The commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans' Affairs or his or\nher designee;\n(d) The Adjutant General of the Kentucky Department of Military Affairs or his\nor her designee; and\n(e) A member recommended by the Joint Executive Council of Veterans\nOrganizations to be appointed by the Governor.\n(2) The Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial Committee shall be charged with the\nfollowing duties:\n(a) Choosing a design for the memorial;\n(b) Determining a location for the memorial;\n(c) Collecting the names of fallen service men and women to be included on the\nmemorial;\n(d) Requesting proposals for the construction of the memorial;\n(e) Making recommendations on an entity to oversee the installation of the\nmemorial;\n(f) Making recommendations on a n entity that will be responsible for\nmaintenance and day-to-day upkeep of the memorial; and\n(g) Seeking appropriations, gifts, grants, federal funds, and any other funds, both\npublic and private, to assist with the costs associated with the establishment of\nthe memorial, which shall be deposited in the Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial\nfund established in KRS 148.582.\n(3) The Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial Committee shall complete the requirements of\nsubsection (2)(a) to (f) of this section no later than October 1, 2012. The committee\nshall produce a written report to be provided to the Governor, the secretary of the\nTourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of\nthe House of Representatives. The report shall include, at a minimum, the following\ninformation:\n(a) The results of the Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial Committee's work with\nregard to the requirements of subsection (2)(a) to (f) of this section;\n(b) An update on the costs required to complete the Iraq/Afghanistan War\nMemorial; and\n(c) The amount of money raised for the Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial at the\ndate the report is due.\n(4) The Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet shall have the following responsibilities\nrelated to the Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial and the committee established to\ncreate the memorial:\n(a) Provision of staff and administrative resources, not including reimburse ment\nfor any expense related to the committee's work, for the committee; and\n(b) Administration of the Iraq/Afghanistan War Memorial fund established in\nKRS 148.582.","path":["KRS Chapter 148"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40256","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:41Z","sha256":"9678e3cf1e2caa36f4fdccb5ac9dceaadc10c0444ec17353fbcd46fbee80752c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-148.572","next":"us-ky/krs-148.582"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
