{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-149.540","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 149.540","heading":"County payments to statewide system -- Power to require owners to","body":"participate -- Adjustments in acreage.\n(1) After January 1, 1959, all counties receiving state forest fire protection and all\ncounties having received notice of the intended establishme nt of such service shall\nannually pay to the cabinet a sum equivalent to two cents ($0.02) per acre of\nprivately owned timberlands according to the most current United States Forest\nService Survey of Kentucky subject to additions and deductions of acreage since the\nmaking of such study. Such payments shall be due and payable on September 15\nfollowing the assessment.\n(2) Contributions may be met out of the general funds of the county and in addition the\nfiscal court may require each owner of timberland in th e county to participate\ndirectly by paying into a special county forest fire protection fund an assessment not\nexceeding three cents ($0.03) per year for each acre of timberland of which he is the\nowner.\n(3) In any case in which the cabinet and the governing body of any county cannot agree\nupon the additions or deductions to privately owned forest acreage in a particular\ncounty, or to changes in forest acreage from year to year, the question shall be\nsubmitted to the judge of the Circuit Court of the county  by a summary and\ninformal proceeding, and a decision of the judge, certified to the governing body\nand to the cabinet respectively, shall be conclusive and final.","path":["KRS Chapter 149"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=1909","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:43Z","sha256":"7f68f9c2943c5ac8747e9b460bef56923315d5635019eab5458329e88465bb00","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-149.530","next":"us-ky/krs-149.550"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
