{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-15.112","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 15.112","heading":"Unit of Election Investigations and Security -- Duties -- Report --","body":"Construction.\n(1) There is hereby established a Unit of Election Investigations and Security within the\nOffice of the Attorney General, which shall enforce state election laws  in\naccordance with KRS 15.243 and:\n(a) Receive complaints from election officials or any other person alleging a\nviolation of the state election law;\n(b) Review notices and reports of an alleged violation of the state election law\nand conduct investigatio ns of any incidents that it determines require further\ninvestigation;\n(c) Initiate independent inquiries or conduct preliminary investigations into any\nalleged violation of the state election law in any jurisdiction of this state that it\ndetermines requires investigation;\n(d) Employ investigators to conduct any investigations;\n(e) Oversee the voter fraud hotline; and\n(f) For purposes of investigation, have the authority to receive sworn statements\nand issue subpoenas to compel the production of records and other\ndocuments.\n(2) If the unit determines there may be a violation of any criminal law or state election\nlaw, it shall inform the Attorney General or refer the findings of its investigation to\nthe appropriate Commonwealth's or county attorney for further  investigation or\nprosecution.\n(3) The unit shall submit a report by July 1 of each year to the Legislative Research\nCommission, which provides detailed information on investigations of alleged\nviolations of the state election laws during the prior calendar year and includes:\n(a) The total number of complaints received, independent investigations initiated,\nand complaints referred to another agency for further investigation or\nprosecution; and\n(b) For each alleged violation investigated:\n1. The law allegedly violated and the nature of the violation reported;\n2. The county in which the alleged violation occurred;\n3. Whether the alleged violation was referred to another agency and, if so,\nto which agency; and\n4. The current status of the investigation or resulting criminal case, unless\nthe investigation is open.\n(4) All reports of alleged election law violations made by election officials or any other\nperson to the Secretary of State or the State Board  of Elections shall be forwarded\nto the Unit of Election Investigations and Security.\n(5) This section shall not be construed to limit or restrict the jurisdiction of any other\noffice or agency of the state empowered by law to investigate, act upon, or dis pose\nof alleged state election law violations.","path":["KRS Chapter 15"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56154","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:32Z","sha256":"77e4dd4129bdbd26766188399d5bfbd6da1b663482b2b4488146bd9caf3d07f9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-15.111","next":"us-ky/krs-15.113"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
