{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-15.330","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 15.330","heading":"Functions and powers of council.","body":"(1) The council is vested with the following functions and powers:\n(a) To prescribe standards for the approval and continuation of approval of\nschools at which law enforcement and  telecommunications training\ncourses required under KRS  15.310 to 15.510, 15.530 to 15.590, and\n15.990 to 15.992 shall be conducted, including but not limited to minimum\nstandards for facilities, faculty, curriculum, and hours of attendance\nrelated thereto;\n(b) To  prescribe minimum  qualifications for instructors at such schools,\nexcept that institutions of higher education shall be exempt from council\nrequirements;\n(c) To  prescribe qualifications for attendance and conditions for expulsion\nfrom such schools;\n(d) To  prescribe minimum  standards and qualifications for voluntary career\ndevelopment  programs  for  certified peace  officers  and\ntelecommunicators, including minimum  standards for experience,\neducation, and training, and to issue certificates to those meeting the\nminimum  standards;\n(e) To approve, to issue, and to revoke for cause certificates to schools and\ninstructors as having met requirements under KRS 15.310 to 15.404;\n(f) To  approve law enforcement officers, telecommunicators, and other\npersons as having met requirements under KRS 15.310 to 15.510, 15.530\nto 15.590, and 15.990 to 15.992;\n(g) To  inspect and evaluate schools at any time and to require of schools,\ninstructors, and persons approved or to be approved under the provisions\nof KRS  15.310 to 15.510, 15.530 to 15.590, and 15.990 to 15.992, any\ninformation or documents;\n(h) To  promulgate reasonable rules and  administrative regulations in\naccordance with KRS  Chapter 13A to accomplish the purposes of KRS\n15.310 to 15.404 and KRS 158.4414;\n(i) To  monitor the Law Enforcement Foundation Program as prescribed in\nKRS  15.410 to 15.510;\n(j) To  adopt bylaws for the conduct of its business not otherwise provided\nfor; and\n(k) The council shall have the authority to certify police officers as set out in\nthis chapter.\n(2) The  provisions of KRS  15.310 to 15.510, 15.530 to 15.590, and 15.990 to\n15.992 do not apply to the Department of Kentucky State Police except for the\ncertification requirement established by this chapter.","path":["KRS Chapter 15"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=48481","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:33Z","sha256":"253ea521807e6fd6291db39336480c9a922c6aa86dd4e8d9fd214ab46afd531f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-15.325","next":"us-ky/krs-15.331"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
