{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-150.180","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 150.180","heading":"Buying, selling, or transporting protected wildlife, mussels and fishes, raw","body":"fur, or processed wildlife.\n(1) Except as otherwise provided for in this chapter, and subject to regulations adopted\nunder this chapter, no person, for himself or as the  agent or employee of another\nshall buy, or sell, or attempt to buy, or sell, barter, exchange, or trade, or have in\npossession for the purpose of selling, bartering, or trading any protected wildlife or\npart thereof, raw fur or processed wildlife, no matt er where or when caught or\nkilled, whether caught or killed in this state or in any other state or other country.\n(2) Mussels and fishes, other than sport fishes as designated by departmental\nregulations, and all fishes, regardless of species, raised by li censed propagation\npermittees may be bought, sold, and transported, if in legal possession.\n(3) Raw furs, if in legal possession, may be sold, transported, or shipped, by a licensed\ntrapper or licensed hunter to a licensed fur buyer (resident or nonresiden t), and by a\nlicensed fur buyer to a licensed fur processor or to another fur buyer if in legal\npossession. A fur processor may hold raw furs or sell to another licensed fur\nprocessor at any time.\n(4) Subject to regulations adopted under this chapter, a pe rson who has been issued a\nlicense under this chapter and who has the license on his person may transport\nanywhere as a part of his personal baggage any protected wildlife legally taken by\nhim under such license, not in excess of the number that the law or  regulation\npermits him to have in possession at any one (1) time.\n(5) A person who has legally taken any protected wildlife in another state and who has\nin his possession the license which authorizes such taking may, if the same be dead,\ntransport the sam e in this state, as part of his personal baggage at any time during\nthe open season for the particular species in the state in which taken or within ten\n(10) days after the close of such season. Any person may ship dead game or dead\nfish so taken subject to the provisions of the laws of the state in which the same was\ntaken and the laws and regulations of the United States relating thereto.\n(6) No person shall import or transport into the State of Kentucky or receive shipment\nin the state from without the s tate, any live fish or wildlife without first procuring\nfrom the department a written fish transportation permit or wildlife transportation\npermit. If it is determined upon inspection that such fish or wildlife would not\nconstitute a menace to the state an d are free from disease and other undesirable\nphysical characteristics, the commissioner shall issue a permit for a fee to be\ndetermined by the Fish and Wildlife Commission by administrative regulation,\npursuant to KRS Chapter 13A. A fish transportation pe rmit shall be valid for one\n(1) year from the date of issuance, and a wildlife transportation permit shall be valid\nfor specific dates as indicated on the permit.\n(7) (a) No person may at any time stock any species of fish secured from any source\ninto the public waters of the Commonwealth without first securing a permit\nfrom the commissioner.\n(b) The stocking or intentional release of first filial (F1) largemouth bass or\nFlorida (Micropterus salmoides floridanus) bass from any source into the\npublic waters of the Commonwealth is strictly prohibited, except that the\ndepartment may promulgate administrative regulations in accordance with\nKRS Chapter 13A to stock first filial (F1) largemouth bass and Florida\n(Micropterus salmoides floridanus) bass in department-owned lakes.\n(8) This section shall not in any way interfere with the transportation of any fish or\nwildlife by authorized personnel of the department.\n(9) Federal and state regulations shall govern the transportation of all migratory wild\nbirds.","path":["KRS Chapter 150"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56840","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:43Z","sha256":"ebc94a839e296e2e703d6dcc81ab6592d7738177f727b4e64453e4c162a1d388","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-150.179","next":"us-ky/krs-150.183"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
