{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-150.722","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 150.722","heading":"Authorized methods of disposal of cervid carcass material and waste by","body":"cervid meat processors, butchers or meat processors, and licensed\ntaxidermists.\n(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Butcher or meat processor\" means any person or business entity that:\n1. Butchers or makes meat products from meat that is amenable under the\nFederal Meat Inspection Act, 21 U.S.C. secs. 601 et seq., and is not\nexempt from mandatory inspection by the United States Department of\nAgriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service; and\n2. Has been inspected and passed under voluntary Food Safety and\nInspection Service inspection; and\n(b) \"Cervid meat processor\" means any person or business entity that:\n1. Butchers or makes meat products from meat that is not amenable  under\nthe Federal Meat Inspection Act, 21 U.S.C. secs. 601 et seq., and is\nexempt from mandatory inspection by the United States Department of\nAgriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service;\n2. Has not been inspected and passed under voluntary Food Safe ty and\nInspection Service inspection; and\n3. Is paid to butcher or make meat products for human consumption from\nten (10) or more animals that are members of the animal family\nCervidae per calendar year.\n(2) Cervid meat processors, butchers or meat process ors, and licensed taxidermists\nshall dispose of any unused cervid carcass material or cervid waste produced as a\nresult of butchering, making meat products, or preparing, stuffing, or mounting\nwildlife by:\n(a) Burying the carcass and all of its parts and p roducts in the earth at a point\nwhich is never covered with the overflow of ponds or streams and which is\nnot less than one hundred (100) feet distant from any watercourse, sinkhole,\nwell, spring, public highway, residence, or stable. The carcass shall be placed\nin an opening in the earth at least four (4) feet deep, the abdominal and\nthoracic cavities opened wide their entire length, and the entire carcass\ncovered with two (2) inches of quicklime and at least three (3) feet of earth;\n(b) Removal of the carcass by a duly licensed rendering establishment; or\n(c) Deposition of the carcass in a contained landfill approved pursuant to KRS\nChapter 224.","path":["KRS Chapter 150"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50447","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:45Z","sha256":"bf19f02b5c3e08ceb2a44f02cc9974b6e14f0fea3dcf433d5fd07f808401bfdb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-150.720","next":"us-ky/krs-150.725"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
