Groundwater accounts for over thirty percent (30%)\nof the public and domestic water supplies in the Commonwealth, and up to ninety percent\n(90%) of all rural domestic supplies, and is the major source of water to streams. It is\nimperative that a system for characterizing and monitoring groundwater be developed so\nthat information acquired through various monitoring programs will allow Kent ucky to\nidentify and characterize the groundwater resource. The information from the monitoring\nnetwork can be used to enhance the Kentucky Groundwater Data Repository; identify,\ncharacterize, and model groundwater systems; develop community and private wa ter\nsupplies; address resource allocation concerns; set boundaries on wellhead protection\nareas; recognize groundwater degradation if it occurs; and evaluate and improve the\nquality and quantity of data collected through all programs.","path":["KRS Chapter 151"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=2143","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:46Z","sha256":"e76997d74236c42463b534615bd9c625c1cb25d47ad7a4ba19742a68e377d3c5","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-151.615","next":"us-ky/krs-151.621"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
