{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-151.710","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 151.710","heading":"Membership of Kentucky River Authority -- Compensation -- Meetings --","body":"Administrative regulations.\n(1) The Governor shall appoint members to the Kentucky River Authority, created to\ncarry out the essential public purpose of protecting the health and we lfare of the\npeople of the Commonwealth as declared in KRS 151.700.\n(2) The Governor shall appoint the secretaries of the Finance and Administration\nCabinet and the Energy and Environment Cabinet and ten (10) other persons as the\nmembers of the authority. The secretaries may designate alternates. Of the ten (10)\npersons, one (1) shall be a registered engineer, one (1) an expert in water quality,\none (1) a mayor, and one (1) a county judge/executive. The mayor and the county\njudge/executive shall be officers  from counties which obtain the major portion of\ntheir water supply from the Kentucky River. Five (5) members shall reside in a\ncounty adjacent to the main stem of the Kentucky River, one (1) of the five (5)\nmembers residing in counties adjacent to locks a nd dams one (1) through four (4);\nand one (1) member shall reside in a county adjacent to either the North Fork,\nMiddle Fork, or South Fork of the Kentucky River. Of the twelve (12) members,\nonly one (1) may be an employee of the Energy and Environment Cabinet.\n(3) Of the ten (10) members first appointed, two (2) shall continue in office for terms of\none (1) year, two (2) for terms of two (2) years, three (3) for terms of three (3) years,\nand three (3) for terms of four (4) years, as the Governor designates . At the\nexpiration of the original terms and for all succeeding terms, the Governor shall\nappoint a successor to the authority for a term of four (4) years in each case.\nMembers may be reappointed. A vacancy in an unexpired term shall be filled for the\nunexpired portion of the term in the same manner as the original appointment to\nthat term. Any member whose term has expired may continue to serve and vote\nuntil his or her successor is appointed and qualified.\n(4) Each member shall receive as compensation o ne hundred dollars ($100) per day for\nattending a meeting of the authority.\n(5) Any member who misses three (3) consecutive meetings of the authority shall be\ndeemed to have vacated the office. The authority shall declare the office vacant and\nthe office shall be filled as provided by subsections (2) and (3) of this section.\n(6) The authority annually shall elect one (1) of its members as chairman. A quorum for\nthe transaction of business shall be seven (7) members, and a majority of the\nmembers present at a meeting may take action on any matter legally before the\nauthority.\n(7) Members shall be paid their necessary travel expenses incurred in attending\nmeetings and in the performance of their official duties, in addition to the per diem\ncompensation of one hundred dollars ($100).\n(8) The authority shall meet at least quarterly, and may meet upon the call of the\nchairman.\n(9) The chairman shall be paid necessary travel expenses and a one hundred dollar\n($100) per diem compensation for conducting official business of the authority.\n(10) The authority shall be attached for administrative purposes to the Finance and\nAdministration Cabinet, and the cabinet shall provide the necessary personnel to\nprovide administrative services for the authority.\n(11) The necessary travel expenses and per diem compensation of the members of the\nauthority in attending meetings and in the performance of their official duties shall\nbe paid by the authority.\n(12) The authority shall promulgate administrative regulations necessary to ca rry out its\nduties, and shall report annually to the Governor and the Legislative Research\nCommission.","path":["KRS Chapter 151"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=2161","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:46Z","sha256":"c01db40ecd65fcad6461934df81b6878dbb7419dd3b71e9db3fd95ad480dcaa9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-151.705","next":"us-ky/krs-151.720"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
