The state geographer shall be\nappointed by the Governor and shall serve for a term of one (1) year. No one (1)\nperson shall be appointed state geographer for two (2) terms in succession nor shall\nthe state geographer be from the same institution of higher education as the person\nimmediately preceding him as state geographer. The state geographer shall serve\nwithout compensation.\n(2) The state geographer shall be a person who holds a graduate degree in geograp hy\nfrom an accredited college or university and who has demonstrated a professional\nknowledge of Kentucky geography through his teaching or research activities.\n(3) To the extent funds permit, the state geographer shall:\n(a) Utilize the facilities of geogr aphy departments of major universities in the\nstate;\n(b) Advise state officials and agencies on geographic matters;\n(c) Serve as a resource for teachers of geography and for publishers of geography\ntextbooks and atlases;\n(d) Assist state and local officials with boundary studies;\n(e) Advise state and local agencies on mapping and cartographic programs;\n(f) Assist state and local officials with planning, zoning and land-use studies;\n(g) Cooperate with other states in exchanging geographic information; and\n(h) Compile, analyze and disseminate geographic information necessary to\nperform the foregoing duties.","path":["KRS Chapter 151"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=2170","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:46Z","sha256":"f46d3d88ff14dbcfcfa58d16442736d647aef99bde168b95371f2cba78fec44a","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-151.730","next":"us-ky/krs-151.990"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
