{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-151b.404","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 151B.404","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in KRS 151B.402, 151B.403, 151B.407, and 151B.408, unless the context\nindicates otherwise:\n(1) \"Adult education\" means, for programs funded under the federal Workforce\nInnovation and Opportunity Act, services or instruction below the postsecondary\nlevel for individuals:\n(a) Who have attained the age of sixteen (16) years of age;\n(b) Who are not enrolled or required to be enrolled in secondary school under\nstate law; and\n(c) Who:\n1. Lack sufficient mastery of basic educational skills to enable the\nindividuals to function effectively in society;\n2. Are unable to speak, read, or write the English language; or\n3. Do not have a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent,\nand have not achieved an equivalent level of education;\n(2) \"Family literacy services\" means services that are of sufficient intensity in terms of\nhours, and of sufficient duration, to assist a family to make sustainable increases in\nits literacy level, and integrate the activities described in KRS 158.360; and\n(3) \"Literacy\" means an individual's ability to read, write, and speak in English and\ncompute and solve problems at levels of proficiency necessary to function on the\njob and in society to achieve one's goals and develop one's knowledge and potential.","path":["KRS Chapter 151B"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=49111","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:47Z","sha256":"3d763b75e9b30d7be8a9f18ab26a22d97b28f8d4d143d972ddeef2f533088fdd","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-151b.403","next":"us-ky/krs-151b.405"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
