{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-151b.406","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 151B.406","heading":"Office of Adult Education -- Educational strategy and responsibilities --","body":"Organization -- Sole agency for developing and approving state plans.\n(1) The Office of Adult Education is created within the Department of Workforce\nDevelopment in the Education and Labor Cabinet to carry out the statewide adult\neducation mission. The office shall implement a twenty (20) year state strategy to\nreduce the number of adults who are at the lowest levels of literacy and most in\nneed of adult education a nd literacy services. The office shall have responsibility\nfor all functions related to adult education and literacy. The office shall:\n(a) Promote coordination of programs and responsibilities linked to the issue of\nadult education with other agencies and institutions;\n(b) Facilitate the development of strategies to increase the knowledge and skills\nof adults in all counties by promoting the efficient and effective coordination\nof all available education and training resources;\n(c) Lead a statewide public information and marketing campaign to convey the\ncritical nature of Kentucky's adult literacy challenge and to reach adults and\nemployers with practical information about available education and training\nopportunities;\n(d) Establish standards for adult lit eracy and monitor progress in achieving the\nstate's adult literacy goals, including existing standards that may have been\ndeveloped to meet requirements of federal law in conjunction with the\nstatewide reading research center established under KRS 164.0207; and\n(e) Administer the adult education and literacy initiative fund created under KRS\n151B.409.\n(2) The Office of Adult Education shall be organized in a manner as directed by the\nsecretary of the Education and Labor Cabinet. The office shall be headed b y an\nexecutive director appointed by the secretary of the Education and Labor Cabinet.\n(3) The Office of Adult Education shall be the agency solely designated for the purpose\nof developing and approving state plans required by state or federal laws or\nregulations.","path":["KRS Chapter 151B"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=54241","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:47Z","sha256":"01a3e1125dc646b89095abd22dd99af02ff36e49edd2a7197760d6216e78ef5c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-151b.405","next":"us-ky/krs-151b.407"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
