{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-152.715","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 152.715","heading":"Definitions for KRS 152.710 to 152.720.","body":"As used in KRS 152.710 to 152.720, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Alternative transportation fuels\" means:\n(a) Before August 1, 2010, crude oil or transportation fuels produced by processes\nthat:\n1. Convert coal, waste coal, or biomass resources; or\n2. Extract oil from oil shale or tar sands;\nto produce crude oil or fuels for powering vehicles, aircraft, and machinery;\nand\n(b) On or after August 1, 2010:\n1. Crude oil or transportation fuels produced by processes that:\na. Convert coal, waste coal, or biomass resources; or\nb. Extract oil from oil shale or tar sands;\nto produce crude oil or fuels for powering vehicles, aircraft, and\nmachinery;\n2. Liquefied or compressed natural gas produced for use as a transportation\nfuel; or\n3. Liquefied petroleum gas produced from natural gas, natural gas liquids,\nor petroleum for use as a transportation fuel.\n\"Alternative transportation fuels\" may include but are not limited to natural gas,\npetroleum, jet fuel, gasoline, diesel fuel, hydrogen derived from coal, and diesel fuel\nand ethanol derived from biomass;\n(2) \"Synthetic natural gas\" means pipeline quality or industrial quality natural gas\nproduced from coal through gasification processes;\n(3) \"Fossil energy resources\" means reserves of coal, oil shale, and natural gas; and\n(4) \"Biomass resources\" means any organic matter that is available on a renewable or\nrecurring basis, including agricultural crops and trees; wood and wood residues;\nplants, aquatic plants, and plant oils; grasses; animal  fats and animal by -products;\nanimal manure; residue materials; and waste products.","path":["KRS Chapter 152"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=42404","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:48Z","sha256":"ed0273fdd46e6d470179f46c04eb6ebaac7058e21cfe7bb431a87e720d1f4c68","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-152.714","next":"us-ky/krs-152.720"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
