{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-153.380","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 153.380","heading":"Kentucky Oral History Commission -- Membership -- Officers -- Duties.","body":"(1) There is established the Kentucky Oral History Commission, hereinafter referred to\nas \"the commission,\" which shall be attached to the Kentucky Historical Society as\na branch of the Oral History and Educational Outreach Division.\n(2) The commission, throu gh funds made available from the State Treasury and from\npublic or private foundations or other sources, shall coordinate, promote, and assist\nin the development of oral history programs across the state and shall otherwise\nimplement programs which result in the accumulation of taped interviews and other\nsupporting data which preserve the multifaceted history of the Commonwealth.\n(3) The commission shall consist of twelve (12) voting members, ten (10) appointed by\nthe Governor. The commissioner of the Depar tment for Libraries and Archives and\nthe executive director of the Kentucky Historical Society shall serve as ex officio\nmembers. Commission members shall serve without compensation but shall be\nreimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their\nduties.\n(4) After initial appointments, commission members shall be appointed for a four (4)\nyear term, except that of the members appointed after July 15, 1998, three (3)\nmembers appointed to fill the terms expiring July 15, 1999, sha ll serve until\nFebruary 15, 2000; two (2) members appointed to fill the terms expiring July 15,\n2000, shall serve until February 15, 2001; three (3) members appointed to fill the\nterms expiring July 15, 2001, shall serve until February 15, 2002; and two (2 )\nmembers appointed to fill the terms expiring July 2, 2002, and July 15, 2002, shall\nserve until February 15, 2003; and subsequent appointments shall be for four (4)\nyear staggered terms ending on February 15. Upon the expiration of terms or in case\nof vacancies, terms shall be filled by the Governor.\n(5) The commission shall, upon the appointment of its members, organize and elect\nofficers from its membership. The commission shall choose, by a majority vote, a\nchairperson and a vice chairperson annually. The commission shall meet upon call\nof the chairman or by a majority of the members of the commission, but no less than\ntwice each year. A majority of the voting members of the commission shall\nconstitute a quorum for the purpose of conducting the business of the commission.\n(6) The commission shall serve in an advisory capacity to oral history activities at the\nKentucky Historical Society and shall be the final grant approval authority for all\nfunds collected by or appropriated to the commission.\n(7) The K entucky Historical Society shall hire staff, expend funds, and operate the\nnormal business activities required by the commission, which shall include the duty\nto provide:\n(a) Office space;\n(b) Administrative support;\n(c) Telephone and other utilities;\n(d) Storage or processing of oral history tapes; and\n(e) Other activities of a support nature.","path":["KRS Chapter 153"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=44490","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:50Z","sha256":"c00c1755907149ad2dc3b73135819c2e1b5c9d8d11875529a7089bb24a60dd9c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-153.370","next":"us-ky/krs-153.386"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
