{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-154.1-735","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 154.1-735","heading":"Qualifications, benefits, and requirements for volunteers.","body":"(1) Volunteers shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age.\n(2) Volunteers shall not serve within a seventy -five mile radius of their legal or voting\nresidence.\n(3) Volunteers shall not be considered employees of the board or the Commonwealth of\nKentucky; however, they shall be granted:\n(a) An allowance which, at a minimum, shall equal the federal minimum wage;\n(b) Appeal rights pursuant to the provisions of KRS 154.1-740;\n(c) Relocation benefits;\n(d) Health benefits;\n(e) Social security benefits;\n(f) Free tuition for one full -time semester at a state -supported Kentucky college\nor university for every twelve (12) months' service completed in the corps; and\n(g) Workers' compensation.\n(4) Volunteers may receive reimbursement for travel, provided the reimbursement  does\nnot exceed the limitations established for Executive Department employees either\nby law or administrative regulation.\n(5) Notwithstanding other provisions of the Kentucky Revised Statutes, volunteers shall\nnot be eligible to receive:\n(a) Dental benefits;\n(b) Disability insurance;\n(c) Life insurance;\n(d) Reimbursement for meals; or\n(e) Unemployment insurance.\n(6) All volunteers shall be expected to bring with them a minimum amount of tools to\nperform their tasks, but the community/user is expected to supply all other items,\nexclusive of clothing and other personal hygiene and grooming items.\n(7) Volunteers shall agree in writing to:\n(a) Cooperate with corps personnel with whom he is working in their common\neffort, and to abide by the policies and procedures set forth in the handbook\nand administrative regulations required by KRS 154.1 -710, and other\napplicable state and federal laws.\n(b) Hold the Kentucky Peace Corps harmless and to release it from any and all\nclaims arising out of or in connection with any agreement he signs upon\nvolunteering, excepting only that the corps shall remain liable for any harm\ndirectly attributable to its gross negligence.\n(c) Perform the work assigned to him in an acceptable manner to the corps, or its\nrepresentatives.\n(d) Not engage in any regular work which carries monetary compensation and\nwhich falls outside the scope of the assigned  corps duties. Any exceptions to\nthis provision shall be authorized in writing by the director, and approved by\nthe board.\n(e) Serve the number of months, not to exceed two (2) years, deemed appropriate\nby the board and director to complete the task assigned. The board may extend\nthe volunteer's contract an additional two (2) years, provided the volunteer is\nwilling, and provided the volunteer has a special skill or expertise needed by\nthe corps.
