{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-156.111","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 156.111","heading":"Superintendents Training Program and Assessment Center -- Local board","body":"not responsible for training costs -- Assessment of superintendents required --\nContracts for training providers permitted.\n(1) The Department of Education shall establish a Su perintendents Training Program\nand Assessment Center. The department shall provide for assessor training and shall\nensure that an assessment center includes but is not limited to training and\nparticipation in the following components:\n(a) Core concepts of leadership and quality practices;\n(b) Effective implementation of school-based decision making;\n(c) Kentucky school law;\n(d) Kentucky school finance and budgeting;\n(e) School curriculum and assessment;\n(f) Instructional leadership;\n(g) School improvement;\n(h) Community and board relations;\n(i) Effective communication; and\n(j) An executive coaching and mentoring program with an emphasis on\ndemonstrated professional growth.\nThe department may provide assessment centers regionally.\n(2) Notwithstanding any oth er statute to the contrary, an employing local board of\neducation shall not be responsible for any training costs associated with a\nsuperintendent's participation in the training and assessment center process.\n(3) At the conclusion of the training, each pa rticipant shall deliver to the employing\nboard of education and the Kentucky Department of Education a comprehensive\ncollection of work products and assessments that demonstrate proficiency in each\narea of training.\n(4) In addition to any applicable certification and experience requirements, any person\nhired for the first time as superintendent in Kentucky shall successfully complete\nthe assessment center process within two (2) years of taking office as\nsuperintendent.\n(5) The Kentucky Board of Education shall adopt administrative regulations to govern\nthe training content, number of hours, assessments, and work products for\nsuccessful completion of the training and assessment center process. The board\nshall also establish the continuing professional development requirements for\nschool superintendents to include, at a minimum, three (3) hours of annual training\nin school finance and three (3) hours of annual training in ethics.\n(6) The Department of Education may contract with q ualified agencies, organizations,\nor institutions or may approve programs offered by training providers to carry out\nthe provisions of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 156"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43529","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:59Z","sha256":"5d051ba27435d0aec834d4c74e4e08f693ad563aac45c20d021a1839efddce1c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-156.110","next":"us-ky/krs-156.112"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
