{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-156.435","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 156.435","heading":"Adoption of state-approved list -- Rejections -- Publication of list.","body":"(1) The State Quality Curriculum Task Force shall select, recommend, and publish the\nstate-approved list of instructional materials or programs for reading and writing,\nmathematics, science, and social studies in each grade or grade band, taking into\naccount the needs of the various types of students.\n(2) The task force shall have the authority to reject any book which:\n(a) Contains subversive material or information that is offered for listing or\nadoption. If the task force finds on the state -approved list any book which\ncontains subversive material or information, the task force shall have\nauthority to remove the book from the state-approved list;\n(b) Is in noncompliance with academic standards established in KRS 158.6453;\nor\n(c) Is not of high quality in terms of the content provided, the audience addressed,\nthe format used, the readability and accessibility of material or the ancillary\nmaterials provided the teacher and students.\n(3) The task force shall have the authority to solicit additions for the state -approved list\nto be included in the instructional materials depository established in KRS 156.412.\n(4) The chief state school officer shall prepare the state -approved list of instructional\nmaterials or programs for reading and writing, mathematics, science, and social\nstudies and publish the list along with a consumer guide and distribute the selection\ncriteria and evaluation forms to the superintendents of each school district in\nKentucky on or before November 15 of each adoption year.","path":["KRS Chapter 156"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56676","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:00Z","sha256":"061d59d804eefe2c3e2ff4227d2169f57619bb7d6df9864f276466024ac8b9b3","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-156.433","next":"us-ky/krs-156.437"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
