{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-156.445","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 156.445","heading":"Only state -approved instructional material or program to be used as core","body":"comprehensive resource -- Exceptions -- When changes to be effective --\nApproval of materials for private and parochial schools.\n(1) Instructional materials or program s for reading and writing, mathematics, science,\nand social studies shall not be used in any public school in Kentucky as a core\ncomprehensive resource unless they have been recommended and listed on the\nstate-approved list by the State Quality Curriculum Task Force, or unless a school\nand district has met the notification requirements under subsection (2) of this\nsection. Any changes of instructional materials made by the task force shall not\nbecome effective until grades and classes of school districts ha ve completed work\nfor which the adopted materials then in use were originally intended. This section\nshall not apply to the supplementary materials that are needed from time to time.\n(2) The superintendent of a school district shall submit a notification t o the department\nif the school district plans to adopt instructional materials or a program as a core\ncomprehensive resource for reading and writing, mathematics, science, or social\nstudies that is not on the state -approved list by submitting evidence that  the\ninstructional materials or program it has chosen meets the selection criteria of the\ntask force in KRS 156.405(3)(a) or (b) and the subject specific criteria of the\ntextbook reviewers pursuant to KRS 156.407(4) and complies with the required\nspecifications.\n(3) In approving text materials for private and parochial schools for the purpose of\nKRS 156.160(2) the text materials shall be approved if they are comprehensive and\nappropriate to the grade level in question notwithstanding the fact that they may\ncontain elements of religious philosophy.","path":["KRS Chapter 156"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56679","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:00Z","sha256":"dd0705ac3778bf5019912ceb7437143950a1ba5e780cb375404369b315f02abe","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-156.440","next":"us-ky/krs-156.447"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
