{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-156.476","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 156.476","heading":"Instructional materials for children with impaired vision -- Requirement","body":"that publisher or developer of adopted instructional materials furnish\nAmerican Printing House for the Blind with text in electronic format.\n(1) The Kentucky Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the chief state\nschool officer, shall select suitable instructional materials and programs in an\nappropriate format, which include braille textbooks, and other materials available in\nclear type of eighteen (18) to twen ty-four (24) points in the different subject areas\nfor children with impaired vision who are attending the public schools of the\nCommonwealth of Kentucky in grades kindergarten through twelve (12). These\ninstructional materials shall not be subject to the official bids, filing fees, sampling,\nand the stipulated list prices, lowest wholesale prices, and the standards and\nspecifications required for the instructional materials approved and listed by the\nState Quality Curriculum Task Force under KRS 156.395 to 156.476 for regular use\nby the pupils attending the public schools of the State of Kentucky. The Kentucky\nBoard of Education, upon the recommendation of the chief state school officer, may\npromulgate an administrative regulation determining the pupils eli gible for the\ninstructional materials, the number and types of instructional materials to be\npurchased, and the general administration of the program. The chief state school\nofficer, subject to the approval of the Kentucky Board of Education, may purchase\nthese books and materials and distribute them without cost to the pupils with\nimpaired vision attending the public schools of the state. All instructional materials\nand programs purchased under this section for the pupils with impaired vision are\nthe property of the state.\n(2) The Department of Education shall require any publisher or developer of an\ninstructional material or program adopted for use in the public schools of the\nCommonwealth to furnish the American Printing House for the Blind with an\nelectronic version of those instructional materials either in the American Standard\nCode for Information Interchange, (ASCII), or in any other format which can be\nreadily translated into braille or large print.","path":["KRS Chapter 156"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56682","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:00Z","sha256":"0a85793734298b8f2779155e6b3fdc7b3407e8804dc5b9da65f88d2dc96b700a","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-156.475","next":"us-ky/krs-156.480"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
