{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-157.110","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 157.110","heading":"Determination of grades and subjects to be provided with textbooks --","body":"Rental of textbooks -- Free textbooks for certain students.\n(1) In the purchase and distribution of textbooks for grades nine (9) through twelve\n(12), if sufficient funds are not available to furnish textbooks for all four (4) grades,\nthe chief state school officer, subject to the approval of the Kentucky Board of\nEducation, shall determine for what grades and subjects textbooks shall be\nprovided.\n(2) Local school districts, which do not provide a free textbook program for all students\nin grades nine (9) through twelve (12), shall establish, pursuant to Kentucky Board\nof Education administrative regulations, a process whereby pupils in grades nine (9)\nthrough twelve (12) may rent  textbooks for a reasonable fee. Rental fees collected\nby the district shall be used for the maintenance of textbooks, the purchase of new\ntextbooks, and the provision of free textbooks to pupils in grades nine (9) through\ntwelve (12) who are unable to rent or purchase textbooks.\n(3) No pupil shall be denied the use of textbooks due to an inability to rent or purchase\nthem. Local school districts shall establish, pursuant to Kentucky Board of\nEducation administrative regulations, a process by which to provi de free textbooks\nto pupils unable to rent or purchase them, including a process by which those\nstudents shall be informed of the availability of, and guidelines and procedures for,\nobtaining free textbooks.\n(4) The Kentucky Board of Education shall adopt administrative regulations to insure\nthe availability of free textbooks to those pupils in grades nine (9) through twelve\n(12) who are unable to rent or purchase textbooks and shall use the guidelines of the\nfree and reduced price lunch programs to determi ne inability to rent or purchase\ntextbooks.
